I consider my search for identity as a wheel that turns slowly. At one point, I am focusing on my identity as an Asian American. The wheel turns and then I spend a year contemplating how American I am. Or how gay I am. Or how Midwestern I am.
Knowing myself come in handy in every situation. It’s only by knowing and challenging yourself that you can know what you can do.Now the wheel has taken a political turn as I try to answer WHY I’m a democrat and what I believe in politically.
The Scott Brown election in Massachusetts, which hinders the progressive legislation I wanted and Obama wanted, made me angry. I was looking forward to my year on the hill where the Democrats kicked butt, only to be shortsighted by a special election in MA. That was last Tuesday, and as my week of hopelessness, anger, and fear has passed, I’m ready to get up off my sorry bum.
I know what I believe in and I know I’m right. It’s time to keep fighting for what I believe in.
